Lufthansa Airlines, officially known as Deutsche Lufthansa AG, is the largest German airline and, when combined with its subsidiaries, also the largest airline in Europe in terms of passengers carried.

Founded in 1953 but started operations in 1955, Lufthansa is one of the world's oldest airlines. The name "Lufthansa" is derived from the German words "Luft" (air) and "Hansa" (a medieval guild of traders or merchants).

Lufthansa's headquarters are located in Cologne, Germany, with its primary traffic hub at Frankfurt Airport, and a secondary hub at Munich Airport.Lufthansa operates a modern and diverse fleet of aircraft from manufacturers such as Airbus and Boeing. The airline was a launch customer for many aircraft types, including the Boeing 747-8 and the Airbus A320neo.
